Can’t wait to see this. Looking forward to seeing fashion portrayed as a serious form of art ….

No pants, thank you

My image of what California girls were with their big blonde hair, gleaming smiles and volleyball playing bodies clad in low-rise bikinis made from fabrics like crocheted yarn and faux fur with lots of padding everywhere, has been replaced with American Apparel-esque, fashion-less Lycra mini everything with cheapy slouchy boots and knock off stiletto strappy sandals without and an ounce of glamour. Shame on LA girls.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a girl without her pants. There is just a proper way to pull off looking like a tramp without looking like a tramp. Unfortunately the masters at this are too far and few between so we end up with a bunch of photocopies of photocopies of collages of pieces that someone saw on someone that they thought looked good, but then upon their attempt to translate it at home it just came out all wrong. It’s like how a real nurse is kind of sexy. But sexy nurse on Halloween just hurts.
Friends/Links/Lovers
So my web designer guy Austin Saylor (magical designer and magician) first made fun of me for NEVER blogging and wanting to put it up on my site. Then he asked me for a list of friends/links/lovers that I would like to have on my “friends” section on kristencoates.com …. here are some things I considered.
www.kitscarbo.com which later I found out only links back to her old site. Sad.
www.theladytigra.com because “bass on the bottom” is still the best music video eveferererferferrr. The site however no longer exists.
I totally thought this guy was so cute for like 5 minutes. I still think he’s cute, sort of. More importantly he’s funny Ben
http://www.veuve-clicquot.com/ duh.
www.hypernovamusic.com – yummy Iranian rock band, www.troubleandbass.com fun/adorable djs, danceright.net because your girl likes to party all the time and so does matt goldman.
carisreid.com – amazing adelemildred.com – amazing machineswithmagnets.com – amazing.
new site to launch soon. Alissa & I are going to make dinner, drink champagne & blog…. xx
Lovely interview with Mr. The Teeth
A couple of months ago I had the very fortunate grace of interviewing Mr. The Teeth. For those of you that live under a rock, The Teeth is an underground musical success often found in cohorts with Jon Ruf.

This meeting took place at a coffee shop prior to a theatre engagement we attended together where The Teeth was almost thrown out for heckling Jon Ruf. Later all was resolved and the theatre director asked of Mr. The Teeth’s services to host an event at the theatre.
KC: Do you consider yourself to be fashionable?
TT: The Teeth has fashioned this form from diachronic substance so in this precise sense, The Teeth is indeed fashionable. Whether that which fashions the diachronic form of The Teeth, namely The Teeth in and of itself, is itself fashioned and thereby fashionable is contingent upon the answer to the popular theological question regarding whether there be some omnipotent intelligence responsible for all that exists. The Teeth doubts it, of course, but he is no zealot.
KC: What inspires your wardrobe choices?
TT: A kind of emotional pragmatism. What you would refer to as “green” tights, for example, are conducive to cheerfulness, to flight, and to obstinacy. “Black” tights, on the other hand, facilitate the expression of careless determination, of lust, and of self loathing. Wardrobe, in other words, is for The Teeth merely a set of tools used to expel emotional capital. Wardrobe choices are for The Teeth less a product of inspiration than of strategy.
KC: Are there any current trends in fashion that you just love?
TT: The Teeth must confess that due to his lack of acquaintance with time, it is a challenge properly to distinguish between that which is current and that which is essential regarding human dress. Could you be more specific?
KC: Your talent costumes tend to be monochromatic, are you considering any color adds in the future?
TT: The popular calculus of color distinction remains opaque to The Teeth, who was unaware until now that he tends toward the monochromatic.
KC: We all know how complicated some of your dance moves/techniques can be – do you consider fashion or function first when getting ready for a show?
TT: The techniques to which you refer are no more complicated than beating heart and blood circulation, and come just as naturally to The Teeth.
Now for the fun, not so fashion related questions:
KC: Do you have a special someone? I’m sure all the single ladies out there are dying to know!
TT: The special ones know who they are.
KC: Are you due to release a new album soon?
TT: Not “due”, no.
KC: What’s it like to work with Jon Ruf?
TT: It is quite equal to working with a drunk primate.
KC: Do you have a favorite hobby or past time? What do you do in your free time?
TT: There is no free time. Nor is there unfree time. The Teeth is committed to bringing about what has already happened.

Catch Jon Ruf & Mr. The Teeth Live May 15th!
I’ll post the details later when they figure out where the show is!

Utah Fashionistas
Well if you live in Utah or you’ll be there on Friday – you have to check out the wonderfully peculiar studio of Black Chandelier by Jared Gold. Seriously the new Pink Chandelier kids clothes are enough for me to buy an airline ticket to go!
