The Gun Show, a group show of contemporary art at Space B gallery, focuses on art in the context of globalized democracy and the general Americanismus inspired by greed, the war on terrorism, and the second amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Within this environment of safety, via mutually assured destruction, contemporary art is born with a similar paradox to that of its considered subject—that of the artistic appropriation of iconoclasm. This show addresses questions like “How is it possible to make art that is avant-garde while living in a pluralistic society without restrictive qualifications?” Featuring:
Carole Caroompas
Oliver Held

Lovely interview with Mr. The Teeth
A couple of months ago I had the very fortunate grace of interviewing Mr. The Teeth. For those of you that live under a rock, The Teeth is an underground musical success often found in cohorts with Jon Ruf.

This meeting took place at a coffee shop prior to a theatre engagement we attended together where The Teeth was almost thrown out for heckling Jon Ruf. Later all was resolved and the theatre director asked of Mr. The Teeth’s services to host an event at the theatre.
KC: Do you consider yourself to be fashionable?
TT: The Teeth has fashioned this form from diachronic substance so in this precise sense, The Teeth is indeed fashionable. Whether that which fashions the diachronic form of The Teeth, namely The Teeth in and of itself, is itself fashioned and thereby fashionable is contingent upon the answer to the popular theological question regarding whether there be some omnipotent intelligence responsible for all that exists. The Teeth doubts it, of course, but he is no zealot.
KC: What inspires your wardrobe choices?
TT: A kind of emotional pragmatism. What you would refer to as “green” tights, for example, are conducive to cheerfulness, to flight, and to obstinacy. “Black” tights, on the other hand, facilitate the expression of careless determination, of lust, and of self loathing. Wardrobe, in other words, is for The Teeth merely a set of tools used to expel emotional capital. Wardrobe choices are for The Teeth less a product of inspiration than of strategy.
KC: Are there any current trends in fashion that you just love?
TT: The Teeth must confess that due to his lack of acquaintance with time, it is a challenge properly to distinguish between that which is current and that which is essential regarding human dress. Could you be more specific?
KC: Your talent costumes tend to be monochromatic, are you considering any color adds in the future?
TT: The popular calculus of color distinction remains opaque to The Teeth, who was unaware until now that he tends toward the monochromatic.
KC: We all know how complicated some of your dance moves/techniques can be – do you consider fashion or function first when getting ready for a show?
TT: The techniques to which you refer are no more complicated than beating heart and blood circulation, and come just as naturally to The Teeth.
Now for the fun, not so fashion related questions:
KC: Do you have a special someone? I’m sure all the single ladies out there are dying to know!
TT: The special ones know who they are.
KC: Are you due to release a new album soon?
TT: Not “due”, no.
KC: What’s it like to work with Jon Ruf?
TT: It is quite equal to working with a drunk primate.
KC: Do you have a favorite hobby or past time? What do you do in your free time?
TT: There is no free time. Nor is there unfree time. The Teeth is committed to bringing about what has already happened.

Catch Jon Ruf & Mr. The Teeth Live May 15th!
I’ll post the details later when they figure out where the show is!

You can make a difference!

I heard about this delightful young woman on NPR that started the above website to help keep costs low for paper. What she ultimately did was she figured out an effortless way to conserve paper.
Please change your margins! And sign the petition to get Microsoft to change their default margins entirely!
Little bits from www.ChangetheMargins.com:
The default margins for Microsoft Word are set at 1.25″ on each side. According to the good people on the Microsoft Help line, there is no technical reason for this. It’s merely a convention we have all gotten used to. Documents will print just as easily if you change the margins to .75″ on each side.
In October 2001, a research team of the Penn State Green Destiny Council released a report on the ecological analysis of Mueller Laboratory, a biology building on the Penn State University Park campus. This policy paper, derived from the report, showed how PSU could save 72 acres of forest and over $120,000/year by reducing the default margin settings campus wide.
Here are some general stats I’ve come across in my research about paper usage and the environment. I’ll soon be adding in more specific stats on just what changing the margins can do. But for now, alarm yourselves with these loverly numbers…
-In prehistoric times, 60% of the earth’s surface was covered by forests – today that amount has been reduced by 30% and is still shrinking.
-It takes 17 pulpwood market-sized trees and 390 gallons of oil to make a ton of paper
-That ton of paper, when disposed of, takes up nearly 8 cubic feet of public landfill space.
-That public landfill is approximately 36% waste paper products.
-Each one million pages of paper not printed saves 85 pulp trees.
-Each person in an office on average uses 2.5 pounds of paper each week. In the U.S., a ton = 2000 pounds, so that means every 2 years and 70 days, each person in an office on average uses a ton of paper. Now re-read the stats above and see how those numbers hit you. Suddenly, a ton doesn’t seem like such an abstract number.
-Americans discard 4 million tons of office paper every year — enough to build a 12 foot high wall of paper from New York to California.
