Closet Party Girl
OMGGGG I can’t believe I haven’t gone out since Friday. I don’t know what to do with all this pent up dance fever. I almost tricked myself into going out with Matthew last night to the Bar, but I need some control.
This weekend I decided that I needed to stay in a bit more, save for taxes (seriously, I owe more to the IRS than I do to the BMW dealership). I also decided that I would stop eating junk food. Primarily cookies. Today I caved. One chocolate chip cook and two Oreos. Okay and two Girl Scout Cookies. Who can really resist those adorable little things? Not me!
I suspect by the weekend I will be going out again per usual and waking up to eat cookies for breakfast. Now if only I could magically make that IRS bill disappear, all my problems would be solved!
Back to the Future Moms
My Mom is so radical it hurts to think about it. She has one of those mystical life stories you only dream about… the one thing she really can’t get though is the future. I must share.
She asked me about 10 years ago if she had to send away for a hotmail account. She learned how to text a couple of years ago. I am always concerned when I read them because they are always in caps. I also receive gems such as this:

:^) HI KRISTEN! :’) MISS YOU :-
( LOVE YOU!
LOOK WHAT I HAVE
FOUND ON MY PHONE! :-Q ONLY HAD
IT FOR OVER A YEAR – OR TWO!
My mother also thinks that because I live in LA, I experience everything she sees on the news or reads in the paper within the state borders. She says things like “How about that poor guy in Chatsworth”? with the most sincere sympathy. I explain to her that I don’t know where Chatsworth is, but yes, very sad about that guy. Forget if there is an earthquake in San Francisco or a fire in San Diego… she calls and texts until I answer. Which I find sweet

The Gun Show, a group show of contemporary art at Space B gallery, focuses on art in the context of globalized democracy and the general Americanismus inspired by greed, the war on terrorism, and the second amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Within this environment of safety, via mutually assured destruction, contemporary art is born with a similar paradox to that of its considered subject—that of the artistic appropriation of iconoclasm. This show addresses questions like “How is it possible to make art that is avant-garde while living in a pluralistic society without restrictive qualifications?” Featuring:
Carole Caroompas
Oliver Held
Ron Laboray
Max Presneill
Jonah Olson
Paul Guillemette
Michael Arata
Eve Wood
Allison Stewart
Cherie Benner Davis
Mary Anna Pomonis
Reed B. Mc Millen
Patrick Masterson
Mark Dutcher
Maya Lujan
Elizabeth Wild
No pants, thank you

My image of what California girls were with their big blonde hair, gleaming smiles and volleyball playing bodies clad in low-rise bikinis made from fabrics like crocheted yarn and faux fur with lots of padding everywhere, has been replaced with American Apparel-esque, fashion-less Lycra mini everything with cheapy slouchy boots and knock off stiletto strappy sandals without and an ounce of glamour. Shame on LA girls.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a girl without her pants. There is just a proper way to pull off looking like a tramp without looking like a tramp. Unfortunately the masters at this are too far and few between so we end up with a bunch of photocopies of photocopies of collages of pieces that someone saw on someone that they thought looked good, but then upon their attempt to translate it at home it just came out all wrong. It’s like how a real nurse is kind of sexy. But sexy nurse on Halloween just hurts.
